About Me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in adolescents and young adults, ranging from 13 to 40 years of age. My areas of expertise include emotional regulation, identity issues, body image, life transitions, self-esteem, self-compassion, perfectionism, and peer relations.

When working with teens, I work closely with parents and believe their involvement is valuable to the therapeutic process.

Philosophy

My approach to therapy is one of collaboration and mutual respect. I do not claim to be an expert on how another individual should live his or her life. Instead, I see therapy as a joint effort between the therapist and client to create a space that is authentic and honest, requiring courage and vulnerability at times. I attempt to challenge clients and their current way of thinking that may be causing problems in the moment. I also strive to help clients treat themselves with more compassion and love. I believe that the relationship formed between the therapist and client is the most important aspect of the therapeutic process.

Adolescent Counseling

All teenagers go through a time of transition, transformation and adjustment. Some teens can manage these changes on their own, but many teens require additional support when they get stuck, feel lost or need direction. Additionally, since the choices we make in the adolescent years impact us in adulthood, therapy is an invaluable resource.

Experience

I have worked for the American Cancer Society, Capital Area Counseling, and Austin Family Counseling in Austin, Texas. Each of these opportunities provided me with diverse training and a focus on working with adolescents, young adults and parents.

In 2011, I began my journey as a mother and have welcomed the opportunity to immerse myself in motherhood while also maintaining my private practice. I have discovered that becoming a parent has provided me with new understandings and insights that are enhancing my work as a therapist.
